Time Management and Pacing

Starting a novel and keeping the pace of writing till the end isn’t very easy job. You may get distracted at times while writing your novel.  So keep the plotting known to you by referring to main idea and stick to it till you fully develop the novel. There will be occasions when you might get influenced by additional themes and this will add depth to your novel but make sure you don’t get carried away from the main theme. This can be strictly checked if you properly plan on how to write your novel. Graphical outlining will help you to keep the pace and will surely prevent your imagination wandering from your main theme and ideas.

Ending

“The End” is the magic phrase of every book, novel, etc. Writing a novel from start to end involves large amount of words. It may range from 90,000 to 1, 50,000 words, as novels are lengthy. You can't sit down in one day and complete your novel from start to finish. Climax is the major part of writing a novel. You are, by this time, well aware of the complete cycle of the plots and it is the Climax of your novel that takes your ability, to bridge the gap between the beginning and end of the novel, for a ride. Some of the writers do the clever trick of writing the end first and then filling up the middle with all the stuff they'd already used. Don’t do this.

Editing

Writing a novel without making any mistake isn’t possible for anyone, so you just don’t worry at the first place. Keep writing your novel till the end. Best way for editing is to ask your spouse or a friend to do the editing. Ask them to do it carefully, even ask them to check the grammar as well as spelling. Ask them to spend time correcting grammar.

Review

You need to review your work so that you don’t receive it back from the Publisher for a Revision. Yes, it is necessary as there would be complaints from the readers, too, if they find mistakes in your novel. And that might affect the salability of your novel. The best way is to follow the following suit for revision of your novel.

  • Take a printout of the manuscript so that you can easily edit the actual copy of your novel.
  • A notebook for noting the errors that may have cropped up.
  • Pens of different colors for marking the errors.
  • Go through the book word by word, scene by scene, character by character.
  • Please check whether you have achieved the objective of your novel.
  • Remove any irrelevant plot, character, setting, or scene.
  • Please do the Grammar and Spell Check once again.
  • Check for margins, etc.
  • Finally, re-revise the novel once again to avoid any leftover mistake.

Once you have arrived to “The End”, your novel is finished in true sense, so it is time for celebration!
